Brand Story: Kuju’s ‘michi’—advancing step by step towards the summit
The philosophy behind the ‘michi’ series
Our concept is to pursue the essence of Kuju that can be expressed in each year, as we journey towards creating the finest whisky that embodies the true spirit of Kuju. The base spirit matures over time, and our craftsmanship continues to evolve. ‘michi’ is a series that embodies our desire for you to enjoy the current expression of Kuju Distillery. Step by step, as if climbing a mountain path. Please enjoy a glimpse of where Kuju stands today as we continue our journey towards the summit.
Pursuing the ‘Kuju Essence’
For a new distillery, discovering a house style that embodies the ‘Kuju essence’ is both a major goal and a challenge. Over the months since we began operations, we have begun to glimpse the essence of ‘Kuju’. ‘Complex’, ‘powerful’ and ‘fruity’. We feel these three elements are the keywords that define the ‘Kuju character’. As time goes on, our unblended spirits will continue to mature and our distilling techniques will evolve. We invite you to join us in discovering what form this ‘Kuju character’ will take.
Primarily non-peated bourbon barrels and refill casks
‘michi’ is a series blended primarily from non-peated bourbon barrels and refill casks. This release is characterised by green fruit aromas and a concentrated, malty sweetness. In particular, the green fruit notes—such as green apple and pear—are more pronounced than in THE FIRST, resulting in a vibrant flavour profile. We invite you to take your time and enjoy the evolution of the whisky in your glass.
At ‘BAR Shinkai’, we serve this whisky by the glass: 45ml for 3,630 yen, 30ml for 2,420 yen, and 15ml for 1,210 yen.
