Named ‘Altus’, a Latin word meaning ‘height’, this expression is finished in Madeira wine casks following extended maturation in Bourbon casks. It is the creation of Dr Bill Ramsden, Glenmorangie’s Chief Distiller and Master Distiller, who has brought together the distillery’s creativity and a quarter-century of exploration. Drawing on his extensive experience in whisky-making and his knowledge of flavours and casks from around the world, Dr Ramsden has created a luxurious, multi-layered flavour profile by combining the delicate and vibrant notes of the bourbon-matured spirit with the sweet and complex fruit aromas imparted by the Madeira casks. ‘Altus 25 Years’, perfected over many years, is a single malt that creates a special moment, featuring a mellow sweetness from maturation, the fruitiness of mandarin, apple, pear and peach, and a complex finish of butter toffee, almond and marzipan.
