Nikka Whisky’s Miyagikyo Distillery uses a “café-type continuous distillation machine,” which has become a rarity in the world.
The distillery uses a “continuous café distillation machine,” which has become rare in the world, to make traditional grain whisky.
The “Café continuous distillation machine” was invented around 1830.
It is called “Café still” after its developer, Eneas Café.
The continuous distillation process, which is currently the mainstream, can increase the degree of alcohol purification, but it also removes flavor components. On the other hand, the distillate from the older, less efficient “café-style continuous distiller” retains the aroma and ingredients derived from the raw materials.
When blended with malt after maturation, the distillate brings out the individuality of the malt after storage, while creating a new aroma and flavor.
The result is a new aroma and flavor while bringing out the character of the malt after storage.

Sweet aroma and smooth mouthfeel produced by a traditional continuous distiller
ニッカのブレンデッドウイスキーにあるまろやかな余韻は、この「カフェグレーン」のほのかな甘さにあるといえるのです。
あえてストレートで味わってみると、アルコール度数４５度にもかかわらず、アルコールの刺激はほとんどなく、華やかな香り（蜂蜜、リンゴ、エステル系）が広がります。奥からはナッツやウッディな香りも漂います。
味はリンゴや蜂蜜の甘い味やチョコレートのような渋みのある味が交互にやってきます。
カフェ式ならではの甘い香りとなめらかな口当たりが特長です。
香り：ウッディなバニラ香、クッキーのような香ばしさ。カスタードクリーム、チョコレート、砂糖を焦がしたような甘い香り。
味わい：クリーンで軽やかな舌触り、ウッディさを伴うバニラ、ハチミツのような甘い味わい。
余韻：軽快なボディ感と共にすっきりと消えていく。
