The Yoichi Distillery, discovered in his prime by Masataka Taketsuru—the ‘Father of Japanese Whisky’ and founder of Nikka Whisky—thrives in the austere northern lands swept by sea breezes. Here, the rich Yoichi single malt—produced using direct-fired coal distillation, a method now rare even on a global scale—is further matured. It boasts the sweet, woody aroma of oak casks and the fruity scent of ripe bananas, alongside a powerful and complex malt fragrance. The flavour profile features a pear-like fruitiness and a peaty taste reminiscent of smoke. It is characterised by a long finish where rich depth and the savoury aroma of peat harmonise.
