Sasanokawa Shuzo Co.
Sasanokawa Brewery, with a history of over 250 years as a sake brewery, obtained a license to produce whisky in 1946, continued to release products such as the YAMAZAKURA series, and in 2016 established the ASAKA Distillery as a project to celebrate the 250th anniversary of its founding.
The Asaka Distillery has been gaining recognition both domestically and internationally year after year, including winning the world’s highest award in the blended malt whisky category at the World Whisky Awards (WWA) 2022 for its Yamazakura Blended Malt Japanese Whisky, Asaka Sherry Wood Reserve.
The Sasanokawa Brewery obtained a license to produce whisky in 1946, and is the oldest whisky distillery still in existence in Tohoku. This complex and flavorful single malt Japanese whisky is made by carefully selecting and blending several types of casks, mainly from Asaka non-piped whisky. It is non-chill filtered and naturally colored. It has a fresh, gorgeous aroma and a clean sweetness that is typical of the Asaka Distillery.
