Eigashima Whisky Distillery
Eigashima Shuzo in Akashi, Hyogo Prefecture obtained a license to produce whisky in 1919. The new distillery was completed in 1984. The distillery, which was built in the Scottish style, is a small distillery, but it produces malt whisky.
The pot stills and wash backs used today were installed in 1984. Later, the maturing cellar was moved to another building, but at that time, the distillery had a unique layout for a distillery, where all the processes of production including maturing were housed in one building. The distillery building from that time is still in use as a maturing warehouse since 1988, and the unique weather conditions of the Seto Inland Sea have greatly influenced the flavor of the whisky.
