Today we are pleased to announce the arrival of “Single Malt Whisky Sakurao” and “Single Malt Whisky Togouchi”, newly released in limited quantities from Sakurao Brewery and Distillery and Sakurao Distillery.
SAKURAO BREWERY AND DISTILLERY (SAKURAO B&D)” (formerly known as Chugoku Brewery Co., Ltd.) started the project in 2015 as a 100th anniversary project. New equipment was installed to produce high quality single malt whisky, and a craft whisky distillery “SAKURAO DISTILLERY” from Hiroshima was constructed.
The “Single Malt Whisky Sakurao” and “Single Malt Whisky Togouchi” will be the first releases of SAKURAO Brewery and Distillery.
1,Single Malt Whisky Sakurao
Woody and smoky aroma with the gentle scent of the Seto Inland Sea
This is the first release of whisky under the “Sakurao” name.
It is bottled at cask strength after three years of maturation in the aging cellar located on the premises of SAKURAO DISTILLERY.
The cellar is located on the ocean side, and the whisky has a subtle aroma of the Setouchi region’s gentle sea breeze. It has a long-lasting woody aroma and a firm peaty flavor. It has a deep flavor with a rich sweetness.

2,Single malt whisky Togouchi
Refreshing undiluted spirits matured in a tunnel in a cool environment deep in the mountains.
Togouchi Whisky, which has been sold up to the present, has been produced mainly for the overseas market and has been a blended whisky using some imported original whisky, but this is Togouchi Whisky’s first single malt release.
The most distinctive feature of Togouchi is its maturation cellar. A tunnel that was once used for the railroad in Togouchi, Aki-Ota Town, is now used as the aging house. The tunnel is approximately 800 meters long, and cool breezes pass through it all year round, keeping the temperature and humidity constant throughout the year. The dimly-lit cellar is said to be the best place for maturing whisky, and was used before the distillery was established. It is bottled at cask strength.
