Limited to 651 bottles of single malt whisky
“Mars Malt Le Papillon” is a series that expresses the splendor of Japan’s seasonal climate and its natural environment, which forms the environment in which whisky is matured, using butterflies that live in Japan as a motif.
The theme of this product is one of the most popular species in Japan, the “Namiageha” (swallowtail butterfly). To evoke the glamorous shot of a swallowtail butterfly visiting a bright red azalea, the product was distilled at the Mars Tsunuki distillery and vatted with malt distillate aged in port wine Marsala wine casks, It is a double cask single malt whisky. <Namiageha> “Whenever I came home from elementary school, I always went out to the hills behind the school. In the spring, I would target the rape blossoms of the tussock butterflies and the green-breasted nuthatches that come to the green onion bunches. We were the only two brothers in the countryside with a .36-caliber connecting rod. It was a souvenir from my uncle in Tokyo, and with it we were invincible in the neighborhood. A large butterfly was flying in the distance by the side of a wheat field. It was a little whitish, so it must have been a Najia Swallowtail, not a Kia Swallowtail. The swallowtail butterfly flies very fast and is quite a difficult enemy. I hurried to close the distance. Now, the battle is on.” This double cask single malt whisky, distilled at the Mars Tsunuki distillery in 2018 and vatted with malts aged in port wine casks and Marsala wine casks, evokes “bright red azaleas and the glamour of a Namiageha,” as if overflowing with the life force of spring.
