Hishida Distillery is a whisky production facility newly established in 2022 at Tensei Shuzo, a shochu distillery founded in 1901. It is a malt and grain whisky distillery on the Osumi Peninsula in Kagoshima Prefecture, using ultra-soft water from the Fugendo spring, which was selected as one of the 100 best waters of the Heisei era.
The whisky business started with the first distillation in November 2022, and has produced malt and grain whiskies. The product to be released this time is “Newborn,” made from whisky aged less than three years. The mild climate of the Osumi Peninsula in Kagoshima Prefecture allows the whisky to develop a rich character even during its short maturation period. The carefully selected malt and grain whiskies are carefully blended under the supervision of Yusuke Yaku, chief blender at our sister distillery, Nagahama Distillery (Shiga Prefecture).
Color: bright amber, warm golden color.
Aroma: Top notes of freshly baked apple cake, followed by cinnamon. Sweet, fresh citrus notes of grapefruit. Nostalgic aromas of cigars, tea leaves and fallen leaves.
Mouth: rich, dark chocolate richness. Woody oak accents add strength. A sweet aftertaste reminiscent of vanilla bean lingers pleasantly long.
