Kuju Distillery is delighted to introduce a new series: ‘Small Batch’. This limited-edition single malt is a blend of carefully selected spirits, primarily aged in sherry casks.
A consistent, concentrated sweetness—from the aroma to the flavour—blends with the complex aromas and flavours of the base spirits, creating a full-bodied mouthfeel. Please savour this whisky neat to fully appreciate its viscous, long finish, which becomes more pronounced over time.
Tasting Note
Colour: Deep amber
Nose: Pound cake, dried pineapple, deep-toned oak furniture, fallen leaves in the shade
Palate: Almond biscuits, syrup-soaked yellow peaches, American cherries, pine needles
Finish: A viscous sweetness reminiscent of butter toffee and a hint of clove spice

‘Small Batch’ refers to a limited-production single malt that allows you to appreciate the distiller’s dedication and individuality even more than a standard single malt made from a large number of barrels, by using only a select few barrels.
“Whilst our previous releases have been produced in a certain volume, the ‘Small Batch’ series uses spirit from a select few casks. This allows us to cherish the common character of Kuju’s spirit whilst delivering a more distinctive personality. We hope you will discover a new side to Kuju and think, ‘So Kuju has this character too.’ Please enjoy the distinct character of Kuju’s spirit to the full.
Starting with a focus on sherry cask spirit
For this ‘Small Batch 01’, we have blended carefully selected spirits, primarily from sherry casks. ‘I focused on how to bring out Kuju’s character amidst the strong nuances of the sherry casks,’ says blender Takeishi. A consistent, concentrated sweetness—from the aroma to the flavour—blends with the complex aromas and flavours of the base spirits, creating a sense of volume on the palate. Please take your time to savour the viscous, long finish, which becomes more pronounced over time, best enjoyed neat.

For this small batch, although the quantity was limited, we had some excellent sherry casks, so we built the blend around them. When blending, I was conscious of how to bring out Kuju’s unique character amidst the strong nuances of the sherry casks. The cask composition consists of sherry casks blended with a small amount of bourbon casks. As the whisky has a voluminous character, it will evolve over time. Please take your time to savour it neat.
